so wonderfully unique, powerful and full-bodied, whilst also working with the two concepts
we hold very close to our hearts: beautiful aromas and refined tannins.

Château Giscours

Presentation

Château Giscours, Grand Cru Classé in 1855

Château Giscours is a wine that reflects our teams’ expertise and in-depth knowledge of the terroir. It is a voluptuous, gourmet wine with the strong personality found in fine wines from the Margaux appellation. It is seductive on the palate thanks to its refined, silky tannins. It is a powerful, enchanting, hugely charming wine. It will age for years without gaining so much as a wrinkle.

A fine wine crafted by high-precision work

Every year, our technical team lavishes individual care and attention on each vine and starts thinking about the Château Giscours blend from spring onwards. During the harvest, we perform a selection by age and complete multiple passes of each plot so that the grapes can be harvested when perfectly ripe. The Merlot is harvested for its roundness and gourmet style. The Cabernets provide the three dimensions of structure, freshness and density.

In the winery, we have altered our approach to extraction so that we showcase the delicacy of the tannins. Maceration is designed in terms of duration, like an infusion, rather than intensity of work in the winery. Our choices are guided entirely by tasting.

2017

A year to remember

Château Giscours 2017 is a precise wine, full of finesse and that reflects the savoir-faire of our team.

The frost episode of 2017 will remain in the memories of each winemaker. However, the frost only hit the lower altitude terroirs, while all the great terroirs have been untouched. Those ones benefited from a great growing season: a perfect blooming followed by a sunny summer with moderate water restrictions that gave a nice concentration to the grapes.

The harvest season, fresh and mild, created the perfect conditions for an accomplished ripening of tannins and a nice plenitude of the aromas. On the cellar, the heterogeneity created by the frost pushed us to be as rigorous as possible in our selections, to reach the highest quality without any compromise. 2017 vintage is a beautiful wine, the perfect illustration of the meticulous work of our technical team all along this challenging year.

2018

A good ageing potential

Château Giscours 2018 has all the characteristics of a Grand Vin: power, finesse and the capacity to travel through time. In this vintage, the particularly high percentage of Merlot in the final blend delivers to the wine a roundness and density that envelop the structure and the tannins naturally present on our soils of deep gravels.

The Cabernets reached perfect maturity thanks to a privileged Indian summer and they have been as always there to bring forward, through a gentle vinification, the structure, the freshness and the long ageing potential

2019

A precise and balanced wine

With the 2019 vintage we aimed to preserve Château Giscours’ signature style, its power and structure, while at the same time working on two characteristics that we especially appreciate: the aromatic palette and the finesse of the tannins.

The Merlot revealed different characteristics depending on the terroir and the harvest date. Some were juicy, fruity, and bursting with freshness, while others, with a more advanced degree of ripeness, presented a magnificent roundness and a much more voluptuous character.

For the Cabernet, we decided to delay harvesting in order to achieve the most complete maturity of the skins and therefore of the tannins. In the winery, we modified our extraction approach with a focus on the delicacy of the tannins. Maceration was based more on duration of contact between juice and skins than on the intensity of extraction. Our decisions were guided by tasting at every step.

The objective was to give to the Cabernet the desired three-dimen- sional character with structure, freshness and density. Very precise and well-balanced, the 2019 vintage gives full expression to the Château Giscours refined style.

2020

Bold and successful

For this 2020 vintage, our aim was to continue in the same vein as 2019, while preserving the typical characteristics of Château Giscours. To achieve this, our objective was to work on two notions that are close to our hearts: aromatic brilliance and fine tannins.

The technical team at Giscours took great care to give each plant individual attention. Our vine-growers and winemakers have detailed knowledge of the terroir and the rows they are in charge of, and they consider these plots of vines as micro-gardens that they tend with great care.

We are very proud of the 2020 vintage. Our team’s in- depth knowledge of the terroir and their risk-taking have produced a voluptuous wine. It is generous, with great personality. It has all the power and fleshiness of Château Giscours, and evokes a taffeta texture with silky tannins.

It is a vintage that reflects the meticulous and bold approach that guided our team during this atypical year.
