Giscours welcomes you to enjoy a family day out, a holiday as a couple, or for your private and professional events. Discover the wealth of the Giscours ecosystem, with its iconic locations and the people who make it unique.

Giscours terroir and wines

At Giscours, we are fortunate enough to have a vast, rich set of vineyards within two renowned appellations, with the oldest vines dating back to 1923. For decades, we have been honouring this exceptional terroir to create fine wines that enjoy a worldwide reputation.

At the heart of one of the most renowned Bordeaux terroirs, Margaux is the only appellation to contain twenty-one Grands Crus Classés. Our expertise enables us to draw the best from our vines in order to make iconic, characterful Margaux wines that are powerful and elegant with beautiful aromatic radiance.

Throughout the year, we are committed to sustainable viticulture to preserve the best of our terroir and respect its ecosystem. We maintain our soils and wines in as respectful a way as possible, and more than half of the Giscours vineyards are now cultivated using the methods of organic agriculture. We undertake meticulous work from vine to winery, and for several years have been performing precision harvests that consist of picking the grapes from the youngest vines through to the oldest, thus retaining the radiance of their aromas and the finesse of their tannins, so vital for making fine wine.

Every day, we are guided by the desire to make increasingly precise and high-quality wines, whilst also respecting our exceptional terroir and preserving the wealth of its ecosystem.

Château Giscours, an unforgettable stop on the Bordeaux wine route

Built in 1825 by Marc Promis, Château Giscours stands at the centre of the estate’s main courtyard. Surrounded by the old stables and the winery facilities, this majestic building has three private rooms, including the main lounge which hosts lunches and dinners at La Table de Giscours.

The Château’s various spaces are available for private hire for dinners, cocktail parties, workshops to explore our fine wines, and tastings.

Each room, decorated by Mrs Albada Jelgersma, contains family memories, artworks from Eric Albada Jelgersma’s collection, and comfortable furniture. All offer magnificent views of the Château park.

La Table de Giscours: gastronomic, local cuisine

The Château is opening its doors and inviting you to table, for a private lunch or dinner.

Having worked in some major Michelin-starred establishments like the restaurant of Hôtel de Crillon, Les Ambassadeurs** where he was a pastry chef, then with Michel Guérard at the restaurant Les Prés d’Eugénie***, Benjamin Laurent offers refined, local cuisine with flavour and authenticity as the watchwords.

Every day, Benjamin draws inspiration from the Château’s vegetable garden and works with our own produce as far as possible: seasonal fruit and vegetables, aromatic herbs, and fresh eggs from our chicken coop.

The beef, lamb and poultry used comes from our farm wherever possible, focusing on short transport routes and meat with an exceptional flavour.

The park and forest: a lush green space near to Bordeaux

Just behind the Château you will find the vast Giscours park and forest. A real invitation to enjoy a stroll, scattered with centuries-old trees from all over the world, wild flowers and expanses of water where ducks, geese, kingfishers and even turtles live in harmony.

The park is like an open-air museum, and your walk will be punctuated with various artworks to discover. Designed in 1870 by Eugène Bühler, the prestigious landscape architect behind the Parc Bordelais, Giscours park was created to be a work of art where plant and animal life could live side by side with pieces from the Albada Jelgersma family’s collection, such as the sculpture ‘Salto’ by Nic Jonk, or ‘The Bather’ by Carla Rutgers-Hendriksen.

As you walk along the path alongside Bühler lake, you will discover ‘The Spectacles’, a fun tribute to Eric Albada Jelgersma, who owned the estate until his death in 2018, was an avid art collector, and wore these iconic glasses his entire life.

Proudly positioned opposite the chateau, they pay tribute to his great vision, his visionary personality, his love of wine, and his three children who have since taken charge of the chateau.

On lovely sunny days, the picnic table at the centre of the park welcomes you to enjoy a rural, pastoral lunch in the shade of the park’s trees. Our picnic of local charcuterie, mature cheese, fresh fruit and other delights carefully created by our chef is accompanied by a glass of Giscours fine wine.

This lush setting just a few kilometres from Bordeaux city centre is the perfect place to reconnect with nature, alongside family or friends.

Suzanne Farm: a unique venue amid the Bordeaux vineyards

Located in the heart of the Giscours vineyards between the vines and the entrance to the chateau, Suzanne Farm is a place brimming with Giscours life. This magical location has been punctuated by events for many years: weddings, large-scale receptions, seminars, harvest celebrations… Suzanne Farm is truly a unique reception venue amid the vines.

Its architecture is inspired by the famous seaside villas of the Basque coast, and its cobbled courtyard adorned with lemon trees will make you feel that time is standing still.

Just a stone’s throw away you will find the Château’s vegetable garden, and if you listen carefully, you will hear the hens cackling happily in the chicken coop.

This historic, hugely charming location will provide you with inspiration for organising your wedding, dance or professional meeting.

The Giscours vegetable garden and animals

Once you arrive at the estate, you will doubtless come across our farming manager playing their usual role of herding the sixty-odd Landes ewes that meticulously maintain the lawns of the chateau and surrounding area.

A genuine working farm, Giscours is home to numerous animals: Pyrenean goats, Bordelais cattle, Landes ewes and lambs, chickens, geese and even a rabbit, making a total of around a hundred animals living at Giscours. The reason for these particular inhabitants is our genuine desire to focus on eco-pastoralism and short channels.

Seeking to preserve the environment and biological diversity, we have been working with the Conservatoire des Races d’Aquitaine for several years, and our meadows thus hold around ten Bordelais cattle and a herd of Landes ewes, two endangered breeds for which we are providing an environment tailored to their needs.

All of this little world plays its role in maintaining the estate, which will delight young and old alike!

Nearby, Ahmed passionately cares for the Giscours vegetable garden. Since the vegetable garden was created in 2019, Ahmed has been growing, seeding and monitoring its proper development to ensure that it supplies the best possible produce for La Table de Giscours.
